The 3rd Annual Black History on Screen: Media Mavens celebrates the power of representation, storytelling, and influence in media. This year, we proudly honor Thema Ponton, award-winning News 12 Long Island anchor, for her excellence, leadership, and commitment to amplifying voices that shape our communities. The evening will feature a dynamic discussion moderated by Founder Mark “MK” McLaughlin, alongside special guest media leaders, and includes film, conversation, and inspiration uplifting the trailblazers who continue to change narratives on and off the screen.
* Honoree: Thema Ponton is an Emmy-winning news anchor who joined News 12 Long Island in 2019. Thema is the weekend evening anchor for News 12 Long Island, Westchester & the Hudson Valley. When she’s not working, Thema spends time with her family and friends.
* Special Guest Ashley B. The Creator & Visionary: Ashlee B. is a creative storyteller dedicated to redefining Black representation through authentic, intentional media. With a passion for capturing real experiences, she uses videography, photography, and digital content to highlight the depth, diversity, and beauty of Black culture.
